Johannesburg: Future Industrialist Garden City

The Garden City - In 2010, the light industry on the outskirts of Johannesburg’s CBD, is demolished. The resulting vacant land is transformed into a sustainable forest while the industrial tenants are relocated into the semi vacated urban fabric of Johannesburg. This resurrects urban function, and the industrialists are forced to evolve and begin improving their inner city locations. The transport system is revisited, an underground conveyor delivery system is proposed. Urban density increases and the residential and commercial sectors return. Land on the periphery becomes the most valuable, with the views out over the sustainable forest. Centralized civic buildings return, replacing the old thinly spread distribution which catered for the urban sprawl with new high tech, well equipped centralized nodes.
The city of Johannesburg flourishes.
